Sound Baths

What is a Sound Bath?

A sound bath is a meditative experience where participants are ‘bathed’ in sound vibrations produced by instruments such as crystal singing bowls, gongs, chimes, rain sticks and chimes. Unlike traditional music or guided meditation, a sound bath is passive: you simply lie down, close your eyes, and allow the waves of sound to wash over your body and mind. The goal is not to listen actively but to allow the frequencies to promote a state of deep relaxation and mental clarity. Wear something comfortable and please bring a blanket and a pillow so you can relax.

We typically perform reiki during the sound bath sessions by our skilled and full insured practitioners. This is entirely optional and if you’re prefer to not have reiki during the session on you please let one of us know at the start.

Enhances Mental Relaxation

Scientific research shows sound vibrations stimulate brain waves, fostering deep relaxation and reducing anxiety symptoms.

Supports Physical Healing

Clinical evidence indicates sound therapy can lower blood pressure and improve recovery through vibrational resonance.

Improves Sleep Quality

Sound Baths encourage balanced neural activity, leading to better sleep patterns and overall restorative rest.

How Sound Affects the Brain and Nervous System

Sound healing is more than just a relaxing experience—it has measurable effects on the brain and body. When exposed to consistent tones, especially those created by instruments like gongs, Tibetan bowls or crystal singing bowls, the brain can shift from active beta waves to slower, more meditative alpha and theta states. These brainwave states are associated with deep relaxation, introspection, and in some cases, emotional processing.

This transition can support the parasympathetic nervous system—the body’s natural relaxation response—helping to reduce heart rate, lower blood pressure, and ease muscular tension. This is why many people leave a sound bath feeling calm, balanced, and refreshed.

Everything in the universe, including the human body, vibrates at a frequency. Sound healing works on the principle that certain frequencies can restore harmony to body and mind. When an external sound frequency is applied, it can influence the body’s own vibrational state—a phenomenon known as resonance.

Closely related is entrainment, where rhythmic sound patterns gently guide the brain’s electrical activity into different states. For example, rhythmic drumming or the sustained tones of a singing bowl may entrain the listener’s brainwaves, aligning them with more restorative or meditative states.

What to bring to your session?

Please wear something comfortable. We provide mats and eye masks but it would be really helpful if you’d bring your own blanket and cushion. You’ll typically be lying down on the floor for the entire session so we want you to be comfortable as you embrace the sounds and vibrations.

What to expect from a sound bath

Common Reactions and Sensations

Attending a sound bath can be a deeply personal and unique experience. Everyone responds differently, and no two sessions are ever exactly the same. The sounds and vibrations used in a sound bath can affect the body, mind, and emotions in subtle or profound ways. Below is an overview of common reactions, all of which are completely normal and part of the healing process.

Physical Sensations

During a sound bath, it is common to feel physical responses such as tingling in the hands, feet, or scalp. Some participants report sensations of warmth spreading through the body, or even the feeling of light pressure or pulsing in certain areas. Deep physical relaxation often occurs, with the body entering a state similar to sleep or meditation. Some people may fall asleep entirely, which is perfectly acceptable and can still provide benefit.

Emotional Responses

Sound healing can gently release stored emotions. A sense of calm and inner peace is typical, but some may also experience emotional release in the form of tears, laughter, or introspective thoughts. These responses are healthy and indicate that the body and mind are processing and letting go of tension or suppressed feelings.

Mental and Cognitive Effects

Mentally, participants often experience a quieting of the mind. Thoughts may become clearer, or time may feel like it has slowed down or sped up. Some report entering a dreamlike or altered state of consciousness. This mental shift can lead to increased clarity and insight after the session.

Discover the Power of Sound Baths

We run weekly sound baths at our studio. We have facilitators who can be booked to come to your workplace or school or college to run a class or session for your employees or students.
